Thursday - Game 5 (and Food!)

Tonight's game was crucial, It was all I could do to eat copious amounts of food today.

I started with a banana. Then I ate a tub of Watermelon. I have received a lot of questions about the new packaging for Albertson's watermelon, so here it is:

I just wanted to eat stuff today. I tried to keep it low in 'bad', if not volume. Next up was 5 ounces of Turkey Breast, roll-up style with mustard.

I used the turkey as a Mustard Delivery Device, and this is pretty special mustard. It is Maille Dijon Mustard. This stuff is really good. It was named Grand Champion of the 2013 Mustard Competition held by the National Mustard Museum. You can read about the victory by clicking ===> here.

After that, I downed a container of Strawberries.

Still not content, I went to Boston Market with Lydia. I had three bowls of soup (no photos), and Lydia had a more traditional chicken with two side dishes. She makes her blog debut today.

I was finally feeling full, but I managed to pack some more Watermelon into my body.

Later, I had another bowl of Watermelon and Some Frozen (Green) Grapes during the game. The green ones are not as good as the red grapes, but they were on sale.

Watermelon Wednesday

Watermelon. Watermelon.

Grapes.

Watermelon.

Grapes.

Watermelon.

I stopped at Albertson's on the way home and picked up dinner. I figured I could have something pro-diet and delicious at the same time.

To celebrate, I ate five bananas on the way home. Yeah, five. They were good.

Anyway, I broiled a piece of Salmon (just about a pound), and nuked some mushrooms and broccoli. Absolutely delicious.
Before bed, I downed another thing of Watermelon. Albertson's changed the container, so I am convincing myself that it is smaller and holds less watermelon. But it is probably the same.

Tuesday

Bowl of Watermelon.

Some frozen grapes.

Two Hard-Boiled Eggs.

Another Bowl of Watermelon.

Around 3:30, Jennifer offered me an Almond. I think that she just likes getting her picture taken.

I met Jeff and Lonnise and some other people at Hooters Hard Rock to watch the Heat debacle last night. They don't have much that I like to eat, but they have Hooters Girls, and I paid with Hard Rock points, so what the hell.

I ordered the Blackened Grouper Sandwich. Passed on the Tartar Sauce and used their mustard instead. My side dishes were beans and beans again. Here's a lousy photo:

We tried to help the Heat along on the second half by ordering some wings. Lonnise and I split an order of ten Naked Wings in Spicy Garlic Sauce. They weren't very good, but I got to say Hot and Naked to a Hooters Girl. You would think that I would be over that by now, but it never gets old.

Memorial Day Weekend: Sunday & Monday

I think I did OK.

Lonnise and I went to Mr. M's Sub Shop on Sterling Road, right off of I-95. They do a good job.

I had a large Turkey on Wheat Bread. I had them scoop out the bread, and add Mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle, green peppers, onions, jalapeno peppers, mild pepper rings and maybe some other vegetable-type stuff. No cheese; no mayo.

It was pretty damn good. I really like that place, but the only down side is that you don't get to watch while they are making your sub, so I can say, "More of that; less of that." That's probably why they don't let you watch.

Later on, I found some baby carrots and had a handful.

We went to Shenanigans on Sheridan Street (next to T-Y Park) in Hollywood to watch the Heat beat down of the Pacers. I started in control, with an order of ten grilled wings, they called them Wasabi-style, but they weren't spicy.

Lonnise had the Cajun flavor. She didn't like them, so I ate the five that she left over. I didn't like them much, either.

We (ok, I) got caught up in the Heat-induced euphoria, so I ordered each of us ten of the Jerk Wings. They were excellent. Lonnise took most of them home, but if you're keeping score, I was at 25 wings. At least they were grilled.

On Monday, I remained not surprisingly full, so my intake so far (4:30 pm) has been two containers of watermelon from Foodtown in Hollywood (they add up to one Albertsons container), some mixed fruit salad, and four red peppers.

If you're keeping score, that's zero points all day, so I was feelinggood about dinner with Lyn and a couple of his friends at Pho79, a Vietnamese Restaurant on Stirling Road in Davie.
They only have a few things on the menu, and -- according to Lyn -- they really should have only one thing: the Noodle Soup.

I started with the Spring Rolls. These had some sort of wrapping around shrimp, noodles and vegetables. They were very, very good.

Then my Soup came. I ordered a Medium-Sized (everyone else got small... go figure) #25: Eye Round Rare Steak and Beef Brisket. The Medium was huge. I saw a Large go to another table, and it was extra-huge. My bowl wasn't chock-full of meat, but there was enough. And for $8.50, I felt like I was stealing. The noodles were good, too. They put a plate full of bean sprouts, cilantro, basil, lime, and hot peppers on the table, and you add your own to the soup. Here's the soup with everything added:

I finished the bowl. So, after thinking about it, I probably could have eaten the Large, but I certainly didn't need to. If I hadn't had the Spring Rolls, that would have been a different story, but I did, so there.

Rustic Inn Crab House

Two hard-boiled eggs.

Lonnise and I split a Wal-mart fruit bowl.

Later, Lonnise and I schlepped over to the Rustic Inn Crab House for dinner.

We each had a bowl of the Conch Chowder, I had Mussels in Clam Sauce, and for my main dish: Lobster Fra Diablo. This was a whole lobster, two different types of crabs, over a dozen shrimp, clams, and mussels in a red crab sauce, over spaghetti. I finished all the seafood, but couldn't get through the pasta.

Lonnise had crab stuffed shrimp. They looked delicious, and she said they were great.
That was enough food for today.

Friday!!!

Well, I'm on a Turkey Neck hangover, but I forge ahead.

I started the day with a bowl of Watermelon.

Since it is a holiday weekend, I decided to live large and have some squash for lunch.

I added some spices and nuked mostly yellow squash and one zucchini. There was plenty, but I trudged through.

We had Six, six-foot subs and salads and chips and stuff at work today... I passed.

Later: Watermelon and more watermelon. Then some raw string beans.

At home, I nuked a box of Lean Cuisine Chicken Enchilada Suiza. I think I've had that before. It was good, but not nearly enough.

Joe Robert came over to watch the game. I made us Tilapia in a base of diced tomatoes, salsa, capers, pearl onions, peperoncini, garlic, and a Mexican hot sauce. We each had about 8 ounces of fish.

Turkey Neck Thursday

Well, today I started out with two hard-boiled Eggs. Then Watermelon. And then More Watermelon.

I was out running errands at Lunchtime, so I stopped at Boston Market for their Free Refill Chicken Noodle Soup. Four bowls. My camera was at 4% battery, so no photos.

Back at work; more Watermelon.

Driving home later, I had a hankering that just couldn't be stopped. I stopped at Andrews Meat Market and pciked up some Turkey Necks for Turkey Neck Thursday.

At home, I opened two cans of sauce, and added some garlic and some Salsa de Rocoto (Peruvian hot Pepper Sauce), and heated for a couple of hours.

I threw the whole thing in a pot, turned the heat on medium, went to my condo's board meeting (I go once every five years), and when I got back... Turkey Neck Thursday!

They were fabulous. Sometimes, I bake them, but this way is good, too. After they were gone, I ate some of the sauce, too. Then I passed out in Turkey Neck Bliss.

Wednesday Dinner

I had some frozen grapes on the way home, and some more at the house a little later.

Jeff and Brent came over to watch the Heat game at my place. We ordered Pizzas from Papa John.

The one that I ate was thin crust, just peppers and mushrooms, light cheese and light sauce. So I didn't feel so bad when I ate the whole thing during the game.

Brent and Jeff had other pizzas. They make it into the blog!

After the game, I celebrated with about a dozen more grapes. Now, I'm typing!

B.C. Tacos

It's Wednesday.

Watermelon. More Watermelon.

Larry and I had to go to the bank today, so we stopped at the BC Taco truck to get a snack.
That's Larry on the left.
I had the Encino Man Taco. Grilled Mahi Mahi, lettuce and avacado, topped with Buffalo Sauce. I had the Taco Dude hold the cheese.
Taco Dude
And there you have it.
It was pretty good. Definitely worth four bucks. I will stop there again. Larry liked his, too. He got a Beef Taco with a hard shell.

Later this afternoon... more Watermelon.

Tuesday - Back to Normal

Well, the party's over. Until August. And when I go to New York next month. Then it will be over.

Starting off the day: Bowl of Watermelon.

More Watermelon.

Seven Ounces of Turkey Breast Rollups With Dijon Mustard.

More Watermelon.

The people at the Hard Rock had mailed me a $100 food credit while I was away, so Lonnise and I went to the Council Oak and had appetizers at the bar. Lonnise ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and the Crab Cakes. That sounded like a good idea, so I ordered that, too.

It was only four shrimps, but they were BIG. Their Crab Cakes are very good. Not quite up to Cap's Place standards, but still good. It wasn't a lot of food, but it was enough. Lonnise really, really likes Crab Cakes.

Later, I had some more watermelon (the bowls were on sale at Albertsons) and some frozen grapes.

Last Day in Lima and the Trip Home

SUNDAY
For our final meal at the resort, we had sandwiches for breakfast... this time with some mystery cheese. I ate two.

Finally back in Lima, I wanted to eat EVRYTHING, seeing as to how I was neglected for two days.

I was a frenzy, so we headed to Las Brujas de Cachiche. They have a high-end buffet every day, so I knew I would be happy.

Happy I was. I ate. And I ate. And I ate some more.

I had (from top to bottom): Causa stffed with Crabmeat, Choros a la Chalaca, Tiradito (raw, thinly-sliced peieces of fish, Rocoto Relleno, Rice and Duck, Pork Slices Saltado, Freshly-Made Cebiche, Some other Chunks of Pork, Some Meat That I Don't Remember, Another Rocoto Relleno, Sauteed Vegetables, and some more Rice and Duck.

I then had a bowl of their Parihuela (not pictured). Brujas does everything pretty well. I could take you to individual places for ONE thing better at 20 different places, but there's no muss and no fuss here.

That being said, the Parihuela wasn't that good. I did leave room for dessert, however.

This picture shows your classic Rice Pudding with a side of Tiramisu. I only did a bite of the cake... it was too 'boozy' for me. I also had two Suspiro de Limon. It's pretty much a Lime Mousse, but I will let them call it whatever they want.

We liked it there, and here's a picture of us with Hugo, our waiter.

After Lunch (we finished around 5 pm), we headed over to Kennedy Park to get hot, freshly-made Picarones.
I had three of these. Or two, I don't remember.

Later that night, Ed crashed, and I met my friend Andrea when she got off of work. We went to this Starbucks that was in an old house.

I had a Chicken Salad Sandwich and a Cappucino. Andrea had a different sandwich and a Frappucino.

Here's Andrea looking all pretty after work.

That was it for Sunday.

MONDAY
I had some Ice Cream at the airport. It was my last hurrah.

Nothing on the airplane. Not even a bag of nuts.

At home, three bowls of frozen grapes.

Heeere's Saturday!

Saturday is our second day at the resort, where You Eat What They Give You.

They gave us small, little pieces of omelets on tasty rolls. Once I realized that was all that was for breakfast, I ate three of them.

I am nothing if not resourceful. I broke me, Ed and Diego out of the joint, and we headed into town for some Pachamanca.

We didn't know Diego until we got there, but he wanted out as much as we did. He's Peruvian, so he knew where to go for the good stuff, and most importantly, he has a car. Off we went.

The best way that I can describe Panchamanca would be to think Clam Bake, but instead of seafood, use different meats and other Peruvian stuff. Wikipedia describes it better; click here.

Our Panchamaca was billed as Three Flavors, but it appeared to have four different meats: Chicken, Pork, Beef and some other meat. Each basket also had a Tamale, A Camote (Sweet Potato) and a Yellow Potato, along with a lot of Habas (a spanish bean). I finished all of mine, except for some of the Sweet Potato.

The restaurant was also pushing very heavily a pork dish, so we took them up on their offer. It was pretty freaking good, too.

We headed back to the resort after Lunch, and went to the Mess Hall at Dinner time.

The Soup was Chicken Noodle. It was good Chicken Noodle Soup, but please, I'm in Peru.

For our main dish, They brought out some chicken thing that was breaded and fried and covered with sauce. The side dish was an approximation of Chinese Fried Rice. It was a pretty good chicken thing and fried rice, but still.

I passed on the chocolate cake for dessert. We head back to Lima Sunday afternoon, so there will be some good dinner, and then back to my regular food plan: fruit, vegetables, and fish.
