Bageland

Mom and I went to Bageland in Tamarac for a late breakfast/early lunch today.

I had a egg-white vegetable omelet with well-done home fries. I made two mini sandwiches with the wheat toast that came with it.

Loretta had Baked Salmon Salad on an everything bagel with a potato pancake.
Loretta says, "Happy Easter!"
Bageland always does a good job. I don't get there very much, what with living East and all, but they are always an excellent choice when looking to fill a bagel/deli need.

When I got home later, I started on the grapes that I put in the freezer last night. I anticipate that they will keep me occupied the rest of the night.
I had the last of the vegetable soup for breakfast. I nuked it, but I kind of liked it cold, too.
Thank you, vegetable soup. You served me well.
I'm meeting Loretta for a late breakfast/early Easter lunch in a little while; this should take the edge off.

On another note, this is my 100th blog post.

Spanx for wings

I was in Pompano this afternoon and went to Spanx BBQ for wings. They have a booth at the Pompano Farmers Market on Saturdays and their stuff looked good, so I swung over.

My order was 16 Smoked Wings. I had them do Dry Rub as opposed to any sauces. They came really quick, and were big, meaty, and very good. Above the skin and below the rub was a sheen of some sort, so I am not sure if they are flash-fried or something before receiving their flavoring. I didn't ask, but will when I go back again.

These looked even better in person. I either need to get a better phone, or start taking my camera with me everywhere that I go.

The place was nicer than it looked from the outside and the service was friendly.

Later on, I wolfed down a lot of watermelon, and had just a handful of (non-frozen) grapes. I will wait for them to freeze up for tomorrow.

Ernie's

We ate at Ernie's on Federal Highway before we went to Sawgrass to see the Maroon 5 concert.
We shared the Jalapeno Poppers. They were unexceptional.

I had the half sandwich (pork) and cup of Conch Chowder. Johanna had the Coconut SHrimp with fries. I also had two of her shrimp and half of her fries.

Ernie's does barbeque really well. Their bread... well, let's say it makes it worth eating bread. The rest of the stuff: not so much. Johanna liked the shrimp, and said that she orders it often at many different places, so maybe it was just me.

More vegetable soup!
I forgot all about my seven pounds of frozen grapes. Can't eat that many, but will try to put a dent in them.

Friday Day

I had lots of watermelon this morning and early afternoon.

For lunch, Johanna and I split some Turkey Breast (I had them as roll-ups with mustard) and a pineapple.

A little later, I downed some vegetable soup. I still have enough for tomorrow!

I had more watermelon before leaving the office.

I met Jeff at the Ale House to watch the Hurricanes debacle.

For dinner, my choice was the Mahi Picatta: Two mahi filets in a lemon-ish/butter sauce, sitting on a 'bed' of spinach. I had some rice on the side. I'm not sure I will make this my first choice the next time that I go to the Ale House. And the Hurricanes got their butts handed to them.

Thursday Lunch!

Before Lunch, I ate a bunch of watermelon.

Johanna brought lunch today, telling me, "This is how we do it in Colombia."

She showed up with Lentil Soup, Plantain slices, some Chicken Breast, and rice.  I had yellow squashes in the refrigerator, so I spiced and nuked them.
All my food groups. And tasty, too!

Here's Johanna, showing us how lunch is eaten.

Some more grapes during the basketball game.

Wednesday Dinner

Late afternoon, I had some grapes.

When I got home, I broiled some Salmon and nuked some asparagus. It was fabulous.
Before

After
I washed the whole thing down with some more grapes.

Now... on to watch the Heat!

More soup. I may float away.
I have a bag of Mandarin Oranges. Have eaten six and counting.
Cuties!

Wednesday!

I found two green peppers in the refrigerator at work, so I ate them along with... a big bowl of Vegetable Soup!
Bonus surprise vegetables

I would like to think that I had enough grapes yesterday to put a jelly factory out of business, but I will probably have some more today.

Finally, some protein today

Diner tonight was Catfish with diced tomatoes and straw mushrooms.

I had gas station coffee a little while ago. They didn't have skim milk, so I used three mini-moos.

Now, I'm back home. I plan on eating grapes until I turn purple, then rolling myself into bed.
Frozen grapes on the drive home.

More Soup

I had some watermelon earlier, and now: More Soup.

Frozen Grapes!

Vegetable Soup

Vegetable Soup... and lots of it.

Broccoli, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Onion, two kinds of Mushrooms, Baby Carrots, Bok Choy, some other green Oriental vegetable, Eggplant, a mild Green Pepper, Cilantro, a can of Diced Tomatoes, Garlic Paste. And lots of love.

We will be seeing plenty of this for the next couple of days.

First thing this morning (OK, second thing, really)... watermelon!

Benihana Sushi

OK, so I only ate once today. But it was enough for three, er, five meals.

I went to Benihana for their "Endless Sushi" promotion. I had sushis, rolls, more sushis and more rolls. And a bowl of miso soup.

Their food is very food. The service in the bar area, not so much.

Amazingly, when I got home... no watermelon.

Heat/Hurricanes Double Header

Lonnise and Johanna met me & Jeff at the Ale House to watch the Heat beat up on Charlotte and the Hurricanes squeak by Illinois tonight.

If you ask nicely, are not in a hurry, and they are not too busy, the Ale House will grill/bake your wings for you. Lonnise and I split an order of 20. By 'split', I mean that I had most of them and Lonnise had like, 5 or 6.

Lonnise also had split-pea soup, Johanna had a flatbread cheeseburger, and Jeff had some sort of salad. I'm never one to take a picture of a guy when there are girls around, so here's Lonnise and Johanna.
If you peek behind Lonnise, you can see Jeff's salad

When I got home, I put the soup that I had been cooking into containers. I had a little bit of squash, and some carrots.

Razor Clams!

So, I went to FoodTown on Stirling Road in Hollywood. This place is the United Nations of supermarkets... they have it all.
Yellow Squash, Bok Choy,
So, I stocked up on Razor Clams, Chinese Eggplant, garlic paste, Black Bean sauce, onion, Chili Paste, straw mushrooms and giant Oyster Mushrooms (I cut them up small). I steam the whole thing and bam! -- Razor Clams in black bean sauce.

I was so excited, I forgot to take a picture when it was done. Needless to say, I ate too much of it.
Not Pictured: Black Bean Sauce
I'm pretty sure that I will be having some watermelon, soon, so let's log that, too.

Diet Update

I take pictures of me & Lonnise just about every time we weigh in. Here's one from our first month (3 weeks in), and on taken at the end of February. I'm really, really glad that Lonnise asked me to go with her.

Here are bananas and plums. There were three plums, but I ate one before I took the picture.

In all likelihood, all of this will be gone by the time that anyone reads this.

Joe Robert's Party

Every year, Joe Robert organizes Christmas Stocking for kids with HIV, and Easter Baskets for homeless kids. Easter is coming.

Joe Robert cooks. This year, fajitas. I had some chicken breast, rice and a little salsa on a tortilla.

I also tasted two strips of the steak for the fajitas.

Lonnise also had the chicken:

Later, I ate a lot of watermelon.

Here's some of the baskets, and here's Joe Robert. Great job!

Earlier today: A (surprisingly good) $1 non-fat latte from Burger King.

Later, 7-eleven coffee with milk.

Hard Rock / Shenanigans

We went to the Hard Rock to see Gabriel Iglesias tonight. We didn't have enough time before the show, so we just got two small popcorns and split them during the (disappointing) show.

After, we went to Shenanigans on Sheridan Street in Hollywood. Johanna and I split 2 orders of grilled wings: Honey Garlic, and Jamaican Jerk. I polished off a dozen out of the 20. No blue cheese; two pieces of celery.
Jamaican Jerk
Honey Garlic

Johanna ordered their loaded fries, but they proved to be too much for her. She took them home to eat for breakfast. Here's a picture of her with the fries. She's really picky about her photos, but I think that she looks great in all of them.

Chicken Noodle Soup!

I knew that I wouldn't be having dinner until very late, so I stopped at Las Colinas on the way home from work.

They have a really good chicken soup, and it comes in three sizes: Regular, Large and Immense. Guess which one I went for?

Las Cholitas

I went to dinner with my mother tonight. She wanted to hear about my Peru trip, so we sent to Las Cholitas, a Peruvian restaurant, to ask me 567348994369 questions.

I had the anticuchos, and followed up with a parihuela. Both were good, and I am sure that I would have enjoyed them more if I hadn't just spent 11 days stuffing as much Peruvian food -- in Peru -- into my body as possible.

I would return, but would probably order different stuff next time. Loretta had the Causa stuffed with shrimp. Here's a not-so-great picture of her.

When I got home, I had some watermelon and headed off to bed.
Guess what? More watermelon.

More vegetables (and grapes)

I had the rest of the leftover vegetables from Tuesday's dinner. Then, more frozen grapes!
Not the same picture as yesterday's
Sergio wanted two things: Some of my grapes, and his picture in the blog. Done.
Sergio and Grapes. That's Sergio on the right.

The good news is that grapes are $1.89 per pound at Albertson's this week. There is no bad news.

I had grapes at home, then some at the office, and then some watermelon.

Heat Game Viewing Party

I met Jeff tonight at Alabama Joe's to watch the Heat game.

I started with a bowl of their corn, crab and crawfish chowder, and then polished off an order of 16 grilled, cajun dusted chicken wings. No blue cheese or anything.

They have one of those claw machines in the bar, with live lobsters as the prize, instead of stuffed animals. Strangely, only one of the lobsters appeared to be a sports fan. The lobster in front was proudly displaying his New York Football Giants allegiance.

When I got home, I enjoyed some more watermelon before bed.
