OK, I'm a sucker for street food. It's cheap, it's usually good, and it's RIGHT THERE.

On my way to hunt for breakfast, I grabbed a Chorizo and French Fry sandwich. The guy offered to put some mayo on it, but I told him no, that would be nuts. After I inhaled that, I had a beef empanada from a street cart. Sandwich: 1 sol (40 cents). Empanada: 1.2 Soles (48 cents).

Yes, French Fries are a condiment.

So then at the Surquillo Mercado #2, I went to see the Seafood Lady. After making a big deal about me being there again, and trying to fix me up with her daughter, we got down to business. She started me off with a chilcano, which is a broth made from boiling fish heads forever. They add chunks of fish (not the head), some onions, a little cilantro, and you suck it down. Delicious. Then she hit me with a cebiche. I usually get mixed seafood, but this time, fish only. It was served with choclo (giant corn kernels), onions, and a little fried calamari on the side, just to keep you honest. The specs of red are hot, hot pepper. The soup and cebiche was US$6. I could buy it cheaper elsewhere, but I like going to this woman for my mercado fish/seafood needs.

There are no fish heads in this fish head soup.
