Lima Day 4: Soy Marino

Sunday, March 16

Marines get more done before 10 in the morning than you do all day.

So I am up at 7:15 and dressed and walking to the Weekend Food Thing by the Mercado in Surquillo before 9:00. It good for two reasons: 1) It's good and 2) I got some steps in.

Also, I had to pick up Breakfast.

Before Breakfast, I went to the Lady with the Good Stuff.

I had her give me a Rocoto Relleno (Stuffed Pepper) and a Papa Rellena (Stuffed Potato Ball).
They are wonderful, and it took the edge off.

Now, for Breakfast, I went to the Chicharron Lady (no photos) and had her make us two Chicharron Sandwiches. Then, I went to the Tamale Ladies.

They hadn't seen me since last trip, so business was down. They took one large Pork Tamale, split it and put it on two rolls. Total cost there: 3.1 soles (about $1.15).

I picked up some coffee, woke Cinthya up, and we had a feast.

That's the Chicharron on the left (grilled Pork with Sweet Potato and Onions) and the Tamale on the right. I had my Chicharron Sandwich, but put the Tamale away for later.

We had plans to meet Garry and Veronika at Pescados Capitales for Lunch. Pescados Capitasles is one of the high-end Cebicherias in Lima. The food's great, the place is clean and beautiful, and the prices are high. I get there, and they tell me that I don't have a reservation. Ha! I take my email confirmation out of my pocket, the hostess grumbles, and they seat us.

They start us with four shots of Choros Chalaca (Mussels in a spicy Onion mix).

Cinthya and I share some Seafood Wontons for an Appetizer.

Cinthya had three; I only had two.

For our Main Courses, I had an order of Scallops Parmesean and an order of Almejas Capitales. Cinthya had Pasta with Seafood.

The Scallops were wonderful; I wound up giving away two of them. The Clams were pretty good, too. I really like Clams, and they aren't that popular here, so I got to eat all of them.

Veronika and Garry had Cebiche (Veronika) and Shrimp Cocktail (Garry) for Appetizers and They both had Fish Filets for their Main Courses.

That was it... no dessert, no coffee, no booze, and the thing came to about US$160. That's really high for over here. It was high-quality, but if I lived here, I wouldn't do it every day. But we all had a good afternoon.

I was on my own in the evening, and I wasn't hungry until about 10:00. I went to San Isidro and ate at Pizzeria La Interna. It was highly-rated in an article I read a whole back and had saved.

I bought a medium-sized Pizza with Meat Sauce and Cheese, and had them add slices of Meatballs.

It was good, but the sauce was soggier than I would have liked, so it was hard to pick up and eat. They would have probably preferred that I used a knife & fork, so we were at an impasse. I solved it by eating the whole thing.

That's it for the day. Here's my steps.
