I went to the dentist in the morning, so nothing before the appointment.
After the dentist, I stopped at the Supermarket and bought a Causa with Chicken and what we would have called a Spinach and Chicken Quiche. I wish I could show them off, but the camera ate those photos. They were supermarket-quality, which means Outstanding by US standards and just average by Peruvian metrics.
I met my friend Alex for Lunch. We went to a new (to us) place on Avenue La Mar called La Nacional. What do you know... another good restaurant!
They got this old-style oven right in front of the kitchen, technically in the dining room, and a lot of the dishes get prepared/finished in there. And the Bread gets cooked there, too. They brought some to the table.
The Corn Bread was amazing, and the regular Bread was pretty good, too. I had half the Corn Bread and one piece of the other Bread.
I started off with a Tamale Verde, and Alex had the Octopus Appetizer.
Alex is not a fan of Blog photos, but he's the only guy I know that likes Octopus more than I do.
For our Main Courses, I had the Arroz con Pato (Rice With Duck). Yo Amo Pato. I Love Duck. Alex had the Grilled Fish of the Day. I don't remember what Fish it was.
My dish came with Salsa Criolla, which is Onions. It also came with a little pot of what I think was more Duck meat. Both mine and ALex' dishes were excellent. Go figure... another great restaurant.
Later that afternoon, I decided that if there was a nuclear holocaust, it would be a shame if I didn't eat one more time, so I went to a Chicken pplace and got an order of Fries to go.
I won't eat Fries at home, but they use Yellow Potatoes here, and they are delicious. And they give you this spicy sauce to dip them in.
For Dinner, I wound up at La 73 in Barranco. I started with an order of Beef Carpaccio.
I followed that up with what they called "Paella Chola." I would have called it Rice with Shrimps and Octopus.
By any name, it was pretty fabulous.
Dinner was at 10:30, not Midnight as has been falsely reported in many social media outlets. I wound up staying out until 2, and when I got home, I had a Cup of Frozen Grapes. Thy had seeds, so I probably won't be doing that again.
Here's my steps for the day.
Rich,
ReplyDeleteBesides grapes, have you tried any other fruits in season like ciruelas, chirimoyas, etc.?
Juan
Haven't even thought about it, Juan. Grapes are my go-to late night snack at home, and I just naturally looked for those.
ReplyDeleteI see some great looking fruits in the mercados, but the people there aren't up to conversing with my pidgin Spanish, so I wind up just pointing a lot. I need to take someone with me, I guess.
Why not take one of your amigas on a fruit shopping date? Maybe you can also impress her with your culinary skills.
