Honest Abe Chopped Down the Cherry Tree (and other historical stuff)

Sunday, August 3

There are a lot of people trying to fill your head with a lot of facts when you are in Washington, DC. Frankly, you don't know what to believe. Believe what you want. But one fact is indisputable: I finally got to go to Washington, DC. Certainly took me long enough. Here's the proof... they built the Lincoln Memorial to match the money.

The day started early. While waiting for the plane at the airport, I had a package of Chicken of the Sea Skinless and Boneless Pink Salmon.

We landed and went to where all the tourist stuff is. You could easily hang out there a week, not leave a ten square block area, and not see half of what's around. And all the museums are free. We went to the Air & Space Museum and saw some cool stuff. We even saw actual Hanging Chads.

Here's me throwing up a []_[] at the Washington Monument, and here's the Monument and its reflection in the (of all things) Reflecting Pool.

And here's Abe, and then back to the food.

It was 3:00 before we made it to Rockville (where tonight's hotel is - the rest of the week is in Alexandria). We were starving, so we went to the first place we saw: BC Steak.

I had the Stuffed Flounder with Broccoli and Mushrooms.

It wasn't very good, but at least it was small. Ed had a Salad and a Filet with  Broccoli. He said that his was delicious. Just proves you shouldn't order Fish in a Steak House.

We finally got to the hotel. Our rooms were upgraded to the Concierge Level, so there were Free Snacks. I had an Orange and Five Wings. They were not breaded and did not appear to be fried.

We were tired, so we later had Dinner at the Hotel. I had the Fried Calamari and a Vegetable Wrap with a Sweet Potato. Ed had the Crab Cakes.

The Calamari was pretty horrendous. Unfortunately, there was a lot of it, and it was topped with Onion Rings. I managed to avoid about half the Rings. As Vegetable Wraps go, mine was fine. It is strange how late in life, I am coming around to Sweet Potatoes. I'm not sure that Ed liked his Crab Cakes all that much... he often doesn't finish his food, but these weren't very large and he left a lot over.

That's it for the day. It was a banner day for steps. Here they are.
