Lonnise and I had Dinner plans for tonight. I had read a review of Hot & Soul in the Sun Sentinel a couple of weeks ago... the reviewer basically gushed all over the newspaper. That doesn't happen a lot, so I filed the restaurant away in the back of my mind.
It was a little hard to find, but find it we did. They are an 'eclectic, international' restaurant, whatever that means. I'm not big on labels, but the one that I would use for Hot & Soul would be: VERY GOOD.
We didn't order much tonight. I started with one of the specials. All of their dishes have catchy names; I don't remember what this was called, but it was a cold Octopus and Potato Salad.
The menu didn't use the word 'salad' and neither did it lead me to believe that this was a cold dish, but that's what it was. I really like Octopus and Potatoes, too, so I was happy. It had an excellent flavor and just made me happy.
Lonnise didn't get a first course, but she ordered the Gumbo for her main dish.
It came in two sizes (small and large). I don't know what she was thinking - she hardly ever finishes her meals. She said that the Gumbo was really, really good, and that she was looking forward to eating the other half of it tomorrow.
I ordered the Adobo Chicken.
This was the small order (many things came in two sizes). It was FANTASTIC. I don't know what I was thinking - I always finish my meals. This was a piece of Chicken (on the bone), covered with (I presume) Adobo Sauce. The whole thing sat on a bed of Jasmine Rice. Again... it was fantastic.
LONNISE: This is really good. Want to try some?
ME: No, thanks. I'm going to come back and order it for myself.
ME: I'm also going to come back and order THIS again.
LONNISE: The large order next time, right?
ME: Damn straight.
And, it wasn't that expensive. The three dishes came to $34 plus tax & tip. You will be reading more about Hot & Soul here in the Blog.
On the way home, we stopped at Albertsons. When I got home, I downed a Bowl of Watermelon.
