This was a short four-day trip. We hit the ground running, and I kep going the whole time.
After last nights dinner at Central, Ed said that he needed to rest in the morning, so I didn't meet up with him until around noon. Undaunted, I head out on my own to forage for food.
I headed towards the Surquillo Mercardo #2 to see the Seafood Lady. On the way, I stopped at a Hot Dog Sandwich kiosk and got a, well, a Hot Dog Sandwich.
It was well worth the 36 cents that I paid for it. It got me to the Mercado, where I reunited with my friend, The Seafood lady.
After getting reacquainted, she started me off with a chilcano, which is a Soup made of fish stock with some chunks of fish in the soup.
The fried stuff in front are a few pieces of Calamari. It was wonderful.
We then had an in-depth discussion about my Cebiche, and we finally agreed to include both Scallops and Shrimp with the Fish. I originally just wanted Fish and Scallops.
It was as wonderful as always, and the whole thing (Soup and Cebiche) set me back a hot four dollars. I did some shopping at the Mercado, headed back to the apartment to pack my dirty laundry to take home, and schlepped over to Ed's hotel.
I was a little worried that Lunch would pale after last night's Dinner, but what could I do? There's only one Central. I made us a reservation at F. Conroy Restaurant. I went the re twice last trip, and I liked the place. We walked there from his hotel, so I had a chance to walk off a little of the Cebiche.
They started us out with two shots of Leche de Tigre. Ed passed; I had his.
I ordered a Rocoto Relleno for my Appetizer. This is a Hot Pepper stuffed with meat and served with Potatoes.
Ed was really in the swing of things. He ordered two appetizers -- Wontons filled with Lomo Saltado, and a Shrimp Appetizer.
I had a couple of the Wontons; they were OK. Ed said that his Shrimp were really good.
For my Main Course, I had the Lechon Crocante, with is a hunk of Pig with the crunchy skin attached.
In a surprise development, Ed had the Raviolis.
He gave me one. It was pretty good.
Shockingly, we passed on Dessert. Our next stop was Casino Atlantic City, where we unsuccessfully tried to give them some money on the slot machines. I had the girl bring me a Cappuccino.
We decided to get another bit before heading back to Ed's hotel to check out and go to the airport. We stopped at a place on a corner in Moraflores. I had one more Rocoto Relleno for the road, and Ed had a final Pork Sandwich. It turns out that he really likes Pork Sandwiches... every time he ate without me, that's what he had.
That was it for me for Tuesday. I didn't eat at the airport or on the plane.
A hot dog sandwich for breakfast after a gourmet dinner! LOL. F Bourdain - You are my kind of guy.
