Lima Day 2: All Around the Town

It turns out that my current apartment is just a couple of minutes walk from the Surquillo Mercado. Summertime, and the eating is easy!

Outside the Mercado stand the Tamale Ladies. I bought a Tamale Verde (green Tamale). She unwrapped it for me and I was good to go. Delicious!

Further into the Mercado (maybe just on weekends) there's a prepared food section. It's all nice and organized.

They had lots of heavier, Lunch-like items, but it was early, so i stuck to what passes here for Breakfast. I ordered a Rocoto Relleno from one person, and got aCausa and Leche de Tigre from another girl.

The Rocoto Relleno is the spicy Stuffed Pepper, the Causa is Yellow Potatoes forming a 'sandwich' of, in this case, Crabmeat and Shrimp, and the Leche de Tigre is a cup of Cebiche (mixed Seafood) with a lot of Cebiche Juice, topped with a little Fried Calamari, just to make it even more wonderful. That whole thing set me back a hot 23 Soles (about $8).

I had to finish up because it was almost Lunch Time. I met Alex and Dely at Embarcadero 41 in Miraflores.

Embarcadero 41 is an award-winning Cebicheria, and with good reason. The food deserves awards.

We ate simply, starting with some Chifles (Plantain Chips) and Cancha (toasted Corn Kernals).

I had their Cebiche de 4 Ajis (Cebiche in a Pepper Sauce). Muy rico!

Dely had Cebiche de Conchas Negras (Black Clams), and Alex had Pulpo a la Parilla (Grilled Octopus). I helped Alex a little with the Octopus.

After Lunch, we went to Larco Mar (a mall built into the side of a mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean) and took in the sights. We stopped at La Lucha and got Fruit Drinks. I had Pineapple. Supposedly, it was just chunks of Pineapple, some water, some ice, and some Equal, but I am not sure.

After that, we all went on out separate ways. Later, I had a date with Cimaru. We had tickets to see Los Locos Addams (The Addams Family) at a theater near my apartment. The show was pretty great. You could have followed along without knowing any Spanish (some of the jokes went over my head). The leads were a couple of very famous Peruvian actors, and it was a fun time. We sat in the14th row, dead center, and the tickets were about $36 each. I had bought them when I was here two weeks ago. The theater was full, so it is good to plan ahead.

After the show, we walked two blocks to Il Postino for a late Dinner. One of the great things about being here is that you can walk just a little, and go anywhere that you need to. Some places are further than walking distance, and they're good too, but if you want to stay on foot, all of your needs are met.

We didn't eat much. We were very hungry at first, so we ate all of the Bread Chips in the basket. There were maybe 8 of them, so no big deal.

Cimaru washed it down with a glass of Wine.

For Dinner, I had the Meat Cannellonis and she had Spaghetti Bolognese.

That's it... tomorrow is another day.
