Lima Day 1: El Peruanito, Fiesta Gourmet, and Patagonia

Saturday, November 30

I had a big day planned for today, including a fund-raiser for a kids' charity in the evening. So I had to pack a lot of eating into just a few hours. I felt like I was up to the task.

My apartment was a short walk to Avenue Angamos, so I set out there early in the morning to get something for breakfast. Once I saw El Peruanito, my decision was made.

They make Sandwiches. And other stuff. But a lot of Sandwiches. I like Sandwiches.

I order both a Chicharron Sandwich and a Butifarra Sandwich. The first is Pork and the second is well, Pork. The Chicharron cost more and the Pork is grilled on a griddle and served with a slice of Sweet Potato. They were both delicious.

I met Ed at his hotel at 1:00 and we headed to Fiesta Gourmet for Lunch. Normally, we would go there for Dinner, but I had plans for Dinner time. Ed really liked this joint last time, so we were looking forward to it.

When we first sat down, they gave us a tiny Fish Sandwich-ette for a taste.

Ed didn't want his, so I had two.

For my Appetizer, I had their special Causa.

Somewhere under that food is some Potatoes, and they're covered (in this case) with some Fish Filet and various Vegetables in a Wonderful Sauce. I'm not a big Olives fan, but they were OK, too.

Ed had the Cream of Asparagus Soup.

For my main course, I got the House Specialty, Arroz con Pato (Rice with Duck).

This is just the most awesome Breast of Duck with Cilantro (and other)-flavored Rice. I ate all the Duck and about half the Rice. Fabulous.

Ed had Lomo Saltado. The photo came out blurry, but here it is.

We waddled away from the restaurant very, very full and happy.

I went to the fundraiser in the evening. We raised just about $500 towards the fund. These guys collect money and than take a whole giant Christmas party to a really poor town outside of Lima. Last year, they threw a party and gave gifts to around 550 kids. I got to go, and it was great.

After the party, I went to Dinner with one of the guys, Arturo, at around midnight. We went to Patagonia Restaurante, an Argentinian restaurant not far from my apartment.

I had the Steak au Poivre, served with Sliced Potatoes in a Cream Sauce.

I don't always eat at Patagonia, but when I do, that's what I get. I finished every bite.

Also, while you're waiting on your food, they bring you some Pickled Potatoes and Carrots.

Arturo gets to eat like this whenever he wants. So it's no big deal to him, and he had a grilled Chicken Breast.

Me -- it's a big deal. Here's what my plate looked like:

After that, I went home and passed out. I had plans for Sunday.
