I had plans to go out for dinner, so I kept it simple and just had a Bowl of Watermelon during the day.
After work, I picked up Joe Robert and we went to Kaluz Restaurant on Commercial Boulevard. It is right on the Intracoastal, where Roadhouse used to be. I have driven past it many times, and it is always seemingly crowded and always definitely shiny, so I wanted to try it out.
The food was good (mostly); the service... not so much.
We decided to split two Appetizers.
They were Chicken Drum Lollipops and Sweet Ginger Calamari. The chicken Drums were bigger than Wing Drumettes, but smaller than most Drumsticks. They were good, and the Sauce was spicy. We both liked them. I had three of the five. The Calamari was lightly-breaded and pretty good. We split that pretty much 50/50.
My Main Dish was the rack of Ribs.
The Ribs were tender and meaty. I liked them. Normally, this is served with French Fries and Cole Slaw. I changed it to the Shitake Polenta and the Chilled Quinoa. The Polenta was good and I ate half of it. I keep trying to like Quinoa (the Wonder Grain!!!), but it's just not happening. I only had a couple of bites of that. Not the restaurant's fault.
Joe Robert ordered the Prime Rib cooked medium. It turned out to be a fiasco. It was dripping blood the first time. They took it away for less than two minutes, so when it came back, it was still rare. The third time, they punished him and burnt it beyond repair.
Needless to say, he didn't eat much of it. Needless to say also, we didn't pay for it.
Even aside from that, the service was not what you expect when dinner for two is $100 without booze or dessert. I could go on, but this isn't a restaurant review. I won't be returning to Kaluz.
Much later, when I got home, I had some Frozen Grapes.
