After my last visit to the Rustic Inn Crab House, I complained to people that I don't go there enough. I now had an opportunity to fix that. I showed up at 8:30. They have 642875852316218 tables in this place. The hostess said hat there was a 30-minute wait. In the middle of Summer. Nice, if you own Rustic Inn.
Driving over, I planned to get the Soft Shell Crab dinner. During the twenty-minute wait, I talked myself out of it, thinking that I will be at Nathan's in Coney Island on Friday night, and I would get the Soft-Shell Crab Sandwich (or four), if they still sell it. Phil used to drive me there for the Crab Sandwiches and Raw Clams when I was a little boy.
Since I wasn't getting the Crab, I again ordered the Lobster Fra Diavlo. It again was huge. This time, I took a picture with the knofe and fork below the plate, so you can see how large the dish actually is.
As delivered... like a Christmas present, if Santa was a chef. |
Unwrapped! |
It was again great. I did an inventory, and counted a whole lobster (it was not tiny; I'm guessing a pound and a half), thirteen shrimp, two clams, four mussels, two of one type of crab, and a half of another crab, and about 87 pounds of pasta.
Here's a close-up of part of the dish:
No appetizer, no dessert. Just the platter of food.
