No, it's not **really** a Food Festival, but this city might as well be one. Every day. Everywhere.
Ed's still on his side trip, so I took the opportunity to just wanter around town. I was in La Victoria, and I stopped at a Fruit Cart for a Pineapple Ring.
Nice and juicy. My next stop was all of three feet away, where I picked up an ear of Giant Corn.
They also sell Potatoes with an Egg. I like Potatoes; I like Egg... I didn't know that it was a thing. Of course it is.
Next up: Breakfast. I saw a random Cebicheria called El Mero Chiclayano that had a sign saying they were endorsed by Gaston Acurio. He's a chef, and the most famous guy in the country; maybe the next President.
I ordered a Causa (mashed Yello Potato filled with -- in this case -- shredded Chicken and Vegetables) and a Parihuela (Seafood Soup).
Pretty darn good, and well worth the less than ten bucks that I paid there.
After that, I had to rush home and get ready, because I was meeting my friend Alex for Lunch. He showed up, I hopped in his car, and we drove a short distance to Las Conchitas Negras. This place is not really different than the previous joint (I'm sure that the local people would disagree), except that it was close to the apartment, and they were open on Christmas Eve day, so i like to reward them with my business.
I had a Cebiche of (what else?) Conchas Negras (Black Clams) and -- in a shocking development -- Parihuela.
Alex, who hates taking Blog pictures, was disappointed that they were out of Octopus, so he settled for a Chicken Breast plate.
For dessert, we stopped for Cremoladas.
Mine was Coconut; Alex's was some Peruvian Fruit flavor. They both were delicious, but Alex likes making faces for my Blog Photos.
Cinthya met me for Dinner. We wound up hitting two places. The first was Avalon Restobar. Avalon is a fairly new Restaurant/Bar/Disco that fills three stories of a building in Miraflores. The restaurant is run by a 'famous' chef, Rogrigo Conroy, so I had high hopes.
We get there at 7:00 pm, and we were the first people. We ordered Drinks and Appetizers, each of us picking a dish. We wound up with Fish and More Fish.
The darker Fish is Tuna in an Oriental Sauce. The lighter one is Swordfish (Pez Espada). Both were raw, with the Tuna officially being 'Tiradito' and the Swordfish billed as a 'Carpaccio.'
They were good, but Cinthya wasn't thrilled, and there was no energy there, so we paid for our stuff and left.
We wound up right down the street at Panchita. That's a Steak (and other stuff) house that is owned/run by the Chef that has the 18th best restaurant in the world, Astrid y Gaston. I'm going there on Saturday.
Cinthya had not been there before, she said, and I love one of their Desserts, and we had eaten the Fish already, so we ordered light. But not before they brought us the Bread.
I didn't have any this time, but from previous visits, this Bread is really good... worth the points.
We ordered one Anticucho de Pulpo.
For those who don't speak Peruvian Food, that's Octopus on A Stick. And it was really, really, really good Octopus on A Stick. Probably worth the ridiculous amount of money that it cost; that's how good it was. Cinthya agreed.
For Dessert, we ordered a Queso Helado.
Roughly translated, that's Frozen Cheese. There's no Cheese involved, but it is Frozen. It's creamy, and Coconut-y, and Cinnamon-y and frozen, but with little bits of Ice, rather than Ice Cream. It's hard to describe the consistency. The taste is much easier: Delicious.
That was it for the day. Here's my steps.
