Lima Day 5: Baby Chickens... Tender and Succulent

Monday, May 12

Ed left for a three-day side trip, so I was on my own.

I was wandering around Lince in the late morning, and I saw one of my favorite things in the whole big world: Hanging Porks and Ducks.

Like a homing beacon, it dragged me into the restaurant.

As if possessed, I ordered a Bowl of 'Special' Wonton Soup, a portion of Duck, and a portion of Pork.

Absolutely freaking fabulous.

That kept me happy for a while. Later, in the apartment, I heated up a Rocoto Relleno (stuffed Pepper) that I had picked up at the supermarket the other day. I forgot to take a picture.

Fernando and I had plans to drive out all the way to Hell and Creation to eat Baby Chickens for Dinner. It is in the opposite direction from my apartment when he leaves work, so I went to Jockey Plaza Mall to meet him there, so we could get on our way.

I was at a mall, and they had Gelato, so I got a cup while I waited.

He picks me up. We drive and drive and drive, until we get to El Pillo for dinner.

El Pillo is one of two places in Peru (or the world, if you listen to this guy) that sells Rotisserie Baby Chicken. The Chickens are 20 days old, he says. I say that they are Tender and Succulent.

Their Menu is pretty simple... All You Can Eat Baby Chicken, Less Baby Chicken than that, a Mixed Grill that nobody orders, and Dessert.

The rest of the pages are drinks.

We order. First off, they bring us baby Chicken Hearts and Liver on a Stick.

Not my favorite, but after Ed's display on Sunday, how could I say no?

Then the Baby Chickens came. They're served with Fries and Salad. I passed on the Salad. It's hard to tell how small they are in the photos because they look like, well, Chickens. So I included a Salt Shaker and my Keys.

As I said, Tender and Succulent. Fernando had one and a half Baby Chickens, and I had two and a half Baby Chickens.

The Baby Chicken Dude (who likes to talk, by the way) insisted on making us Crepes Suzette for Dessert.

Fernando thought it was spectacular. I wasn't as enthralled; there was a LOT of Butter and a very heavy Brandy taste. There was Fire involved, though... I liked that.

That was it for the day. Here's my steps.
