Lima Day 2: Peruvian Classics, Sort Of

Friday, May 9

Ed slept in, so I was on my own for Breakfast. I did some walking before going to the supermarket to stick uo, and my first stop was for a Tamale Sandwich.

Two Sandwiches, in this case; the Rolls were small. My second stop was for a shredded Chicken Sandwich. I had them add Hot Sauce.

For lunch, Ed and I met up with Dely and Lucero and headed to Fishito Ceviche Factory in Lince. Like all Cebicherias, they put out a bowl of Cancha (toasted Corn) to munch on. This bowl also had some fried stips of something that is *like* Calamari, but isn't.

We started by sharing a Maki with Fried Shrimp. It sounded exciting, but it was covered with globs of Cheese and a Mayo-based Sauce, and heated. I had a couple of pieces, but we all decided that it wasn't a winner.

After that, we stuck to the basics. I had a Tacu Tacu (Rice & Bean Patty) covered with mixed Seafood. Pretty Good; I ate all the Seafood and about 2/3 of the Rice.

Dely had a Leche de Pantera.

That's a Cebiche of Conchas Negras (Black Clams) in a glass. Lucero had a Causa, covered with Mixed Cebiche.

If you were wondering why these girls are so skinny, it is because they order small things. Hmmm...

Ed also had a Tacu Tacu.

His was covered with Shrimp Saltado. He really liked the Saltado, but wasn't a fan of the seasonings in the Tacu Tacu.

We gave our mouths a rest after that for a while.

My friend Walter met us for Dinner later, and we drove all around Lima. The first place we went to (La Botica) was full, and the second place (Sin Reservas) was out of business. I'm not surprised about that -- the food was good, but there were hardly ever any customers there.

We settled on a random Caldo de Gallina place near Sin Reservas. I had Anticuchos and a Caldo.

The Beef Hearts were good, but not up to Grimensa's standards, but in realty, nobody's is. The Caldo (Chicken Noodle Soup with an old Chicken) was delicious.

Ed had Steak a Lo Pobre, and Walter had a Beef Stew-like plate (I forget the name).
Much later, Ed and I were walking around the Kennedy Park area, and I got a cup or Arroz con Leche for Dessert.

That's Rice Pudding to you and me. But this was warm and wonderful.

Here's my steps for the day. There were a lot.
