Ed, it turns out, is an Adventurer. He ordered a Cuy today.
I've been coming here for 10 years; I haven't eaten a Guinea Pig.
In our morning walk, I had a Chicharron Sandwich for Breakfast.
That's sliced Pork with a slice or two of Sweet Potato on the bottom. Delicious. And Cheap. Cheap and Delicious, that's the ticket!
For my Pre-Lunch, we stopped at a stand and I got a cup of Leche de Tigre.
Leched de Tigre is basically Cebiche in a cup. This one was Mixed Seafood. The stuff on top are Fried Calamari strips, just as a bonus.
For Lunch, Ed and I got a Taxi and headed all the way out to La Molina, to the Agricultral University, UNALM. They have an outdoor 'Food Court,' and I had a feeling that it wouldn't be as mobbed as everywhere else on Mother's Day. It was crowded, but manageable.
Ed had been talking about trying a Cuy (Gunea Pig) for a while now, and he was hell-bent on doing it RIGHT NOW. They also had a Butcher's Department. Here he is checking out the Beef Hearts.
We sat and ordered. For myself, I ordered another Chicharron Sandwich (they're good!), and we got an order of Anticuchos (Grilled Beef Hearts) to share.
I finished the sandwich and four of the six pieces of Heart. Ed's Cuy arrived.
He said that it was good, and ate about a third of it. I think that after he dove in head-first, it became a little weird. Or maybe he was just full.
Anyway, that was it until Dinner. We were meeting Veronika and Kelly in Barranco, so Ed and I headed over there early, and wouldn't you know it, they were selling food. The highlight was this Pig that they just hacked up and cooked over a barrel.
We met the girls at Antica Trattoria in Barranco. We ate there last year, and Ed really liked the Pizza. It was his one request this time.
We started with Garlic Cheese Bread. It was more Cheese than I have had in a year... biy, was it good. One for each of us.
Then the Pizzas came. We had two: Pizza Bolognese (with Meat Sauce) and one with Shrimp... it was the Pizza of Ed's Dreams. We went Pizza Photo Crazy!
I had three slices with the Meat Sauce. They weren't that big. Ed was ecstatic. It wasn't Cuy, but he made do.
For Dessert, the girls had... something and something with a Brownie. I had Dessert on Saturday, and Ed was full.
That was it for the day. Here's my steps.
Rich,
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, including the extra crispy guinea pig.
