LIMA DAY 9: Fiesta Gourmet

Saturday, March 14

No Breakfast again. This is getting to be a nasty habit.

What I did do, however, was stock up -- just in case. I took a walk in the morning and bought some Empanadas for later and picked up some Aguaymanto at the Mercado.

Sandra introduced me to Aguaymantos last week. They are a Cherry-like South American Fruit that comes in a little flower that you have to remove before eating. I'm sure you can pay for pre-separated Aguaymantos, but they stay fresh longer in their natural state. If you want to know more, here's the Wikipedia link.

I then went home and slept a pre-packed until mid-afternoon. When I woke up, I had the two Chicken Empanadas that I bought earlier.

Ed and I had reservations for Dinner at Fiesta Gourmet in Miraflores. He's been here in Lima three times now, and I think that Fiesta is his favorite place to eat.

They go all out here -- guys in suits, linen tablecloths, a beautiful dining room, and my name sitting on a table.

They started us with a tiny appetizer. As we learned the other night, an 'Abre Boca.'

This was not the best photo, but it was some ground-up Sausage in what tasted like a Corn, I don't know... ground-up Sausage Holder. Whatever, it was good.

Ed even has regular things that he orders here. He stuck to the routine and had the Cream of Asparagus Soup and the Lomo Saltado.

And he loved it all. I went in a different direction than usual here, and ordered the Chinguirito as my Appetizer and a Tortilla de Pato for my Main Course.

Fiesta Gourmet is a Northern Peruvian style Restaurant -- the food is prepared differently up North, and they often have different Meats, Fishes and Vegetables available. Chinguirito is a Cebiche made up of dried Guitar Fish (yes, there really is a Guitar Fish). I have had it before at other Restaurants, and this one tasted just like the others -- excellent.

They love them their Duck up North. The Tortilla de Pato is a Duck Omelet. You should well know by now that Yo Amo Pato (I Love Duck), so having it in an Omelet isn't that big a stretch. Peruvian Cooking often uses the Omelet as a Food Delivery Device, and although this isn't much to look at, either in the photos or in real life, this rocked. It had big chunks of Duck, it wasn't overcooked, and all of the little pebbles you see on the plate are pieces of Toasted Garlic. You also can't really tell how big this was, but it was plenty for Dinner.

We passed on Dessert and Coffee.

Dinner at Fiesta Gourmet is not cheap, even when compared to the other nice places we've been to, but it is quite a treat, and worth the occasional splurge.

After, we gave some more of our money to the corporations that own the Casinos before I headed home to hit the bed fairly early. Before going to sleep, I ate the Aguaymantos form the morning.

Here's my steps.
