Sandra and I had a generic (and Free) hotel Breakfast today. I had some Egg thing on Toast with a couple of slices of Cheese and then some Fruit, and Sandra had the same thing, plus meat, plus more Cheese and then Fruit.
The Berry-like Fruits on my plates were some Peruvian Fruit whose name escapes me right now. It was my first time for them, and they were a little tart, but good. Sandra told me to look for them in the Mercado because thy come all wrapped in leaves and stuff. I will report back if I remember.
Then I went to the dentist and got a filling. As my reward for not crying like a baby, I took myself afterwards to Per-Lizza for their Empanadas. It was my pre-Lunch.
One was Mushroom & Cheese, one was Chicken and Mushroom, and one was Aji de Gallina, which is chicken in a not-too-spicy Sauce. And the cup was Cafe con Leche, except I didn't pour in the Cafe part yet.
Then, for real Lunch, Cesar and his girlfriend, the lovely Nevanka, picked me up and we headed to Sonia's in Chorrillos for some Cebiche.
We started with three Cebiches - Fish (the classic kind) for Nevanka, and Cesar and I split two Cebiches... one with Scallops and one with Octopus.
I gave you both pictures of Nevanka because, well, you know.
After, Cesar and I split some Grilled Octopus. Nevanka watched.
Sonia is arguably the first Cebicheria in Lima. I know -- they're all good, why not just go to the one next door to your apartment? But it was really good here, especially the Grilled Octopus.
Then, I rested and made some donations at various local casinos. Around 9:00, I went to the Cebicheria next door to one of the apartments that I rent: Punto Azul. They're open for Dinner nowadays, and there's never a line at night.
I had the Cebiche Punto Azul: Just fish, covered in a Red Pepper Sauce. I followed that with the Pescado a lo Macho, which was two grilled Fish Filets covered in a Sauce of Mixed Seafood.
The Fish is usually Fried in the second dish, but if you ask nicely, most places will grill it for you.
In bed, while reading, some Frozen Grapes. Here's my steps.
Hi Rich,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great pics. Are you able to find seedless grapes in Lima?
Javier
Yes! It must be Frozen Grape Season! And they are the best Grapes ever!
DeleteIn a related note, the hotel Breakfast featured seedless Watermelon. I didn't ask where it came from; the waitress was terrified of the Gringo trying to speak Spanish.
LOL. I'm sure she wasn't terrified of you or your accent - you are a very likeble guy in Lima.
ReplyDeleteThat is great news about the availability of seedless grapes and watermelon. I'll be staying near a Wong supermarket on my next trip and hope to find some there.
Javier
;)
ReplyDeleteI picked up my Grapes at Surquillo Mercado #1 - On Ricardo Palma & Paseo de la Republica.
