No Breakfast again. I walked over to where the Tamale Lady was, but she wasn't. As I had my heart set on Tamales at that point, I just decided to wait for Lunch.
Ed & I met up and headed down to Barranco to eat at Cevicheria Los Delfines. I 'discovered' this place last trip. They were doing plenty well without me, but they're happy to sell me Lunch whenever I want.
I started with a Mixed Seafood & Fish Cebiche, and Ed tried his first Causa, this one with Shrimp.
My Cebiche was pretty fantastic, an Ed really liked his Causa. It didn't photograph all that well,
but a Causa is a Food Delivery Device made up of mashed Yellow Potatoes, and topped or filled with things like Shrimp or Octopus or what we would call Crab Salad or Chicken Salad or Tuna Salad. I tasted a little of his and he picked a good first time to try it.
For our Main Courses, I had Fried Mixed Fish Chunks and Calamari, and Ed had Fettuccine with Shrimp.
He said that his Pasta dish was great and the Shrimp were cooked perfectly. He eats a lot of Shrimp, so I would tend to take Ed's assessment at full value. My dish was just what you'd expect -- freh Fish all fried up is pretty good.
We were walking off Lunch, and I maneuvered us to La Espiga de Oro. For those of you who think that Facebook is useless -- well, you're wrong. I discovered this Bakery when I saw that one of my local friends checked in here on morning last year. Ha!
La Espiga is one of my Breakfast go-to places. They make a nice cup of Coffee. I ordered up a Cafe con Leche, and Ed had a Cappucino and for Dessert -- a Strawberry Tart.
That was it until Dinner.
I hadn't seen my friend Dely in almost a year, and she had heard (through the rumor mill) that I was in town and texted me from her new phone number. I invited her to join me and Ed for Dinner at Amor Amar.
I had first learned about Amor Amar from Cynthia, and I had been back there twice since. Dely met us in Miraflores, and we taxied down to Barranco. Dely had never heard of the place, and Ed was a little not sure, because it doesn't look like anything from the outside, and the street it is on is a little, er, dicey. But they trusted me, and their trust was well worth it.
After we ordered our beverages, they brought a dish of three 'Abre Bocas' (Open your mouth). Basically, a small courtesy Appetizer and some Bread.
The Abre Boca was some Steak Tartar on a Chip, and -- like all the nice Restaurants here -- the Bread and Butter came with a story. I made believe that I was listening, but I wasn't, so you're on your own for the story.
For our Appetizers, Dely chose (no surprise) a Ceviche. I have been out with her half a dozen times, and she almost always gets some version of Cebiche. I had the Grilled Octopus, and Ed proved how much he enjoyed the Causa in the afternoon by getting another one with Dinner.
We all just about licked our plates clean. They were no longer concerned about the street, or the neighborhood, or anything.
For our Main Courses, Ed and I both decided on the Atun (Tuna) Saltado. The clasdsic Peruvian Dish, Lomo Saltado, is a stir-fry with Steak, Onions and Tomatoes, served with Fries and Rice. This version substituted Tuna for the Steak. Dely decided to mix things up by ordering for her Main Course: A Cebiche. The first one was all Fish; this one was a combination of Fish and Octopus... a girl after my own heart!
Ed and I loved our dish. He was blown away by how good the Tuna was. Dely put hers away, too... this girl weighs 95 pounds soaking wet, but every time I see her, she eats like a linebacker. I just don't get it.
For Dessert, both Ed and Dely had a scoop of Plantain-flavored Ice Cream, and I had a ball of Chicha Morada Sorbet.
Drinks are expensive at Amor Amar, but without the beverages, all of this only came to US$110. For that quality food, it was a bargain at less than $40 per person.
We then hit the Casino for a while, were -- of all things -- I won. Before I went to bed, I had some more of the Delicious Frozen Grapes.
That's it. Another successful day in the bank. Here's my steps.
Tuna Saltado! : )
