LIMA DAY 6: Taking it Easy

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

I had Lunch in this cute little place:

Work was really busy in the morning, so I didn't even think about eating until around 1 pm. If you suggest that it might have had something to do with Monday's excesses, I suppose you could be right.

I wandered aimlessly for a couple of blocks until I came upon a row of Lunch Joints. Here's their signs.

That's 12 Soles, buy the way, not dollars. About three and a half bucks. There were three or four restaurant choices. I picked the Casa Cafe because I wanted to try Crema de Rocoto Soup.

It turns out that's not soup. It is some slices of Potatoes, covered in a spicy (Rocoto) Sauce. I was so shocked, I couldn't hold the camera straight.

The rest of my meal was a Bisteck a Lo Pobre. That's a steak with Rice, Plantains, and a Fried Egg. The meal also came with an Orange-colored Drink and some Jello for Dessert. A bargain for less than $4.00.

That held me for a while. Ed and I donated some money in a casino, then headed to Superba for Dinner. This is a bar that is referred to as a 'Taberna' here in Peru. I wouldn't call it a Tavern, but it's close. The drinks are reasonable, it is a low-stress place, there's and actual JUKEBOX WITH RECORDS, and they sell a lot of different classic Peruvian dishes. People come here and hang out with their friends for hours.

Here's a link to a YouTube three-minute video of the place. It does a much better job of describing it than I can. It's in Spanish, but just look at the pictures. If you are reading this in your email, it's probably worth clicking through to the actual page to watch the video.

We both started with Soup. Ed had Dieta de Pollo, which is Chicken Noodle Soup, and I had Sopa a la Criolla, which is a Beef Noodle Soup in a Creamier Broth.

That was enough for Ed. I also ordered Fried Fish Chunks.

The Soups were both very good, and the Fish Chunks were OK. I have had better, but they were nothing to complain about.

That was it for the day.

    1. It's in that little plaza just east of Fiesta Casino and before Av. La Paz on Benavides. The whole plaza looks like a little old rustic village.

      Who are you, btw?
