LIMA DAY 3: Giant Mutant Chicken

Friday, March 10, 2017

I may be but a poor country boy, but my Mama always used to tell me, "Son, if you can start a blog post with a picture of a pretty girl holding a Ceviche with Octopus, you'd be a fool not to." So here's Lucia.

In the morning, I ran down to the bodega on the corner to get some stuff for Breakfast.

Since the whole country apparently has a Dollar Menu, I bought a Chicken Sandwich, a Chicken Roll-up and a Triple Sandwich for ninety cents each (3 soles), They weren't very good, but I added Tari Sauce, which makes everything better. There was a joint next to the bodega that made fresh Juice, so the cup had Pineapple Juice, and *that* was fantastic.

My friend Lucia works not far from my apartment and gets off at 2 on Fridays, so I met her for lunch. I asked her to pick the type of food, and being the smart girl that she is, said, "Seafood." We walked to La Preferida.

This Cevicheria has been there since 1956, AND they are open early for Breakfast -- very civilized.

Since she did a good job picking the food type, Lucia also did the ordering. We had a Ceviche that came with Grilled Octopus on it, and Rice with Shrimps.

Lucia has met Ed Murphy, so she is well-versed in taking Blog Photos.

The Ceviche and Octopus will have songs written about it, and the Rice with Shrimp was made in the style of a "Chupa de Camarones" -- a Shrimp Soup. This had the ingredients and the flavor, without the Soup part.

Lucia had Dessert; I didn't.

Ed (not the Ed who gives Blog Photo classes) flew in to meet me, so Luis and I went to pick him up. On the way, we stopped to gamble and to have dinner at a 24-hour Chicken place.

You know it's a good joint -- they have the cashier stationed inside a Giant Chicken.

I had a Caldo de Gallina -- Chicken Noodle Soup -- and Luis had a 1/4 Chicken plate.

The food there's really good. And cheap. The two plates, plus a pitcher of Chicha Morada, came to 38 Soles, or $11.69. Without the drink, the food was less than $9.
