LIMA DAY 5: Duck. And More Duck.

Monday, March 13, 2017

Here's me posing with Duck, Ed-style.

I had the other Tamale that I bought on Sunday for Breakfast.

After that, I headed to Ed's hotel, where we worked in the morning. I had some Aguaymanto, which is a delicious fruit that they have around here. If you care, you can read about them by CLICKING HERE.

I met my friend Alex for Lunch. We went to El Merlin de Cabo Blanco, a popular Cevicheria. We started by sharing Scallops Parmesean.

I then had a Scallop Omelet (it didn't photograph well, but was delicious) and Tacu Tacu with Duck. Alex had a combination of Ceviche and Rice with Seafood.

You've already seen me modeling the Duck Dish. The Duck was spectacular.

For Dinner (much later), Ed and I met up with Fernando. We met at Saint Tropez Restaurant, out in the other end of Lima. It was worth the schlep.

Saint Tropez is big and fancy and takes themselves a little too seriously, but the food is excellent, and they fall all over you to 'be of service.' Ed ordered a Screwdriver, and the bartender immediately sliced and juiced four oranges to make the juice. It's that kind of place.

And the menu has everything, and you kind of want to try it all. We did our best.

For our Appetizers, we ordered Beef Carpaccio, A Causa topped with Shrimp, Grilled Octopus, and a Leche de Tigre.

The Carpaccio and Octopus were outstanding. The Causa might have been good, but I never got around to trying it. And Fernando kept the Leche de Tigre for himself, but he finished it all.

For our Main Courses, the waiter really, really, recommended the Seco de Pato (Duck). I had Duck for Lunch and it was great. But it seemed that he was very confident about the dish, so I trusted him. Fernando ordered the Corvina (a Fish), and Ed had the Tuna Steak AND he ordered a Shrimp with Rice dish for the table.

The Duck photographed poorly, but it was more wonderful than the one earlier. Ed's Tuna blew him away, both with its size, taste, and quality, and Fernando again finished his plate :). The Shrimp with Rice was really, really good, but we all hardly touched it.

The check came to right around US$240, including an overly-generous tip. That included all of the Alcohol (a total of four drinks), four soft drinks, four appetizers, and four main dishes. For three people. It's more than I want to spend every night, but considering the quality of the food, the service levels, and how happy we walked out, this was a bargain at $80 per person.

We passed on Dessert, by the way. Ed somehow found room for a Cappucino.

  1. That's a big chunk of tuna steak. I'm just used to being served a 10oz little piece. Great pics.
