LIMA DAY 6: Duck Dumplings

Yes, those are Duck Dumplings. Duck. Dumplings.

When Football isn't going the way I would like, I spend a lot of time watching games with the laptop on my stomach, looking for places to fill said stomach. So I found a review somewhere for KaƱete. It is walking distance from my apartment, the review was gushing, and the pictures looked good, so I put them on my list for this trip.

Well, good move, as it turns out. Everything is super pretty, the menu shows some thought, the staff was friendly, helpful and had suggestions, and despite the fact that they use sustainable products, no artificial seasonings and no single-use plastics, everything was really good.

It's not quite in the hood, but you can still call this part of Surquillo 'Up and Coming.' If you go at night, take a taxi.

I had three dishes there. The first was the Ceviche Kanete.

This was served with three 'Pantacones' - I know them as Tostones. Either way, they are fried Plantains, mashes, shaped and fried again. Would do business with this plate again.

After that, I ordered the Duck Dumplings.

Yes, Duck Dumplings. The only problem with these was that they are small and there aren't enough of them on the plate.

My last dish was strongly recommended by the waitress - Manchapecho.

I'm not sure that I understood everything she told me, but I think this plate is basically a Carapulcra con Sopa Seca with a bonus of a big hunk of Pork Belly. Caraplucra is a Dried Potato Stew with some special Carapulcra seasoning, and the Sopa Seca part is Noodles. Technically, Dry Noodle Soup, but in reality... Noodles. This was fantastic. All the Dishes here were $10-$12, and for this quality, that was a bargain.

Dinner time rolled around, as it is wont to do. I was gambling and didn't have any specific plans, so I just walked the streets of Miraflores, a sad, hungry Jew, at Christmas time.

Luckily, I am in Peru, and wandering the streets will indeed get you fed.

I stumbled upon a street corner (in the middle of a totally residential part of town) with four - FOUR - places to get fed on this one, oddly-shaped corner. Both of the 'fancier' places were hopping, so I went into the one that had three open tables... Bodega D. I think I have been here before, a few years back, but I am not sure.

Another place here the lighting wasn't that great. I did what I could with the photos.

I started with a Causa with Calamari.

Causas are mashed and spiced Yellow Potatoes, usually used as a Food Delivery device. It's hard to see, but this time, it was delivering what were cooked Calamaris - you can see the bodies under the greenery in the pictures. I like Causa, and I like Calamari, so I was happy.

I was even happier with my Main Course, the Tuna Steak.

The Tuna was cooked the way I asked - almost raw - and it came with a Risotto that I think just had Tomatoes in it. Both were really, really good, and they gave me a tone of shredded Parmesan to put on top of the Rice, making it even better.

That was it, I wandered back to the casino, where I spent the rest of the night improving the economy of Peruvian Gaming Corporations.
