We don't look like elves. Maybe Deisi (in the blue) does, but we were extra Elf-like today. |
Today was the Kids' Christmas Party in Puente Piedra, about an hour outside of Lima. We work all year to throw a party for a couple of hundred kids that live in a really poor neighborhood. The party was really great, and you can read all about it by CLICKING HERE if you'd like.
But, as I learned a long time ago, you gotta eat.
Before we met up for the party, I went to Estacion 329 for Breakfast.
That's a Ham & Cheese Sandwich on some fancy Bread, and a Latte. They do a great job on both of these things.
That was it for a while. The party was a roaring success... there were way over 200 kids. They danced, they laughed, they ate too much candy, they got gifts, and they smiled. Lots of little smiles. Here's a few photos, but you can CLICK HERE to see even more.
What a wonderful experience. Hit me up if you want to come to next year's party. We could use the help.
After that, we all retired to Juanita's house. She's one of the women in the group that runs the food kitchen in town - where we had the party - and she knows a thing or two about whipping up a meal. Juanita made us a Pollada.
Pollada (read about in Wikipedia HERE) is the Chicken that is traditionally served in Peru when someone or some group has a Fund-Raiser. Think of a rent party in the United States, and it is the same theory. The chicken is spiced, I don't know, Pollada-style. It's spicy but flavorful. And you only get that combination of spices when someone makes a Pollada. That's how it is, I guess.
We all enjoyed our Polladas and trudged back home.
I recuperated enough to go out later that night, stopping first at Casino Atlantic City, where they handed me a plate as I walked in. It was Dinner time there.
Some sort of Fish with Rice, and a Chocolate/Cinnamom thing.
Later that evening, I found myself in Cavalli, this place that's a Bar with a Restaurant. But as far as I am concerned, it's a Restaurant.
Maybe I have a look, but this was the second place in a row that gave me food the second I sat down. These were, for lack of a better term, tiny Tuna Melts.
My one problem with this place is the lighting. They fancy themselves a 'Restobar' so the lighting is pretty dark. Doesn't help when you have a food blog.
I started with the two things that I usually get here - Tuna Tartar and Razor Clams.
The Tuna was as delicious as it looked, and the Razor Clams... they grill them, and then add Butter and Garlic. You tell me how they were :)
They played right into my hand with this dish. In the USA, Razor Clams are super expensive; here, they are the cheapest thing on the menu.
For my Main Course, I ordered the Seafood Paella.
It was nice to look at, and it smelled good, but the last thing I needed was to eat all that food. So I picked the Seafood out of the Rice, ate the two Scallops, and called it a night.
