Best way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo? Fly five hours to Peru. All the guide books say it.
So I landed, dropped the stuff off at my apartment, and did what I always do: Headed to Punto Azul. They have Octopus and they are open until midnight.
They're open late; I really like their Ceviche, and they are close to everything. Unfortunately, the service has gone down the last few visits. But I'm not mystery shopping; I'm eating.
Anyway, I get there and mix things up a little. I order the Assorted Stuff Appetizer instead of the Ceviche I usually get, followed by the Octopus. First cold, then hot.
Even though it seems simple, the Octopus comes out first. The waiter looks confused and then realizes he forgot the Appetizer. I told him that I would wait while they made what I wanted. It finally appears.
You're looking at Ceviche in the middle. There are three different Tiraditos surrounding it. Tiradito is basically Ceviche with different Sauces. They were Pesto, Parmesan and some fruit or another. The last item was Fried Shrimp. In the middle of the Appetizer, the manager appeared with my Octopus again. I took it this time.
The plate was hot, so all they did was keep it warm. She stopped by halfway through the Octopus, and I wasn't exactly turning handstands.
Re-warmed or not, I've had better Octopus, but not at 10:30 at night.
I was thinking about finding another late-night Seafood place (there has to be some) when it was time for the check. Luz (the Manager) came out and told me that she was comping my meal. So I guess I will be back.
After that, off to the casino, where I actually won a few dollars. Then bed.
NOTE TO PAIGE: I know we were supposed to catch up after my last trip. I promise to call you when I get back.
