LIMA DAY 2: A Last-Minute Switch

Saturday, May 6, 2017

The day started, as all my Saturdays do, with Coffee and a book.

Apparently, when I wasn't looking, a fancy Coffee Shop opened on every corner in Miraflores. This one, Cafe et Chocolat, has a Bakery as well. The guy insisted that I try the triple-Chocolate Cookie. When in Miraflores...

I did some shopping after that. Of note, I am going to visit the National Mustard Museum in Wisconsin in July. It's been a life-long dream of mine. I took some photos of the Mustards here in the supermarket, just in case they have any holes in their collection. We will see if the Curator writes back.

But I digress.

The real cool part of trips to the Supermarket is that they will push your cart to your house, through the lobby, up the elevator, and into your apartment -- all you have to do is ask. They are not supposed to take tips, but what management doesn't know won't hurt them.

I had a reservation for dinner at Amoramar, but my friend cancelled about an hour before she was going to meet me. Amoramar is more of a date place than somewhere I would go by myself, so I called an audible and grabbed a taxi to Saint Tropez... all the way out in hell and creation.

That place is really good, and if it wasn't far, this Blog would be called Rich's Meals at Panchita and Saint Tropez. They are full of Tuxedo waiters, trying to be all full of service. I just let them whirl.

They know how to bring the Ice at this place.
I started with a Leche de Tigre, which is a small Cebiche with extra Cebiche Juice. This one had a lot of Juice, so you can't see the Fish. It didn't photograph all that well.

The Official Appetizer was Grilled Octopus, and my Main Dish was a Tuna Filet au Poivre.

The Octopus was everything I hope an Octopus will be, and the Tuna... well, when I was here last trip, Ed had the Tuna and he hasn't stopped talking about it. He eats a lot, so that's good enough for me.

He was right. It was huge, and perfectly done. I like my Tuna very rare, and after negotiating with the waiter, they came through.

That was it for the day. I didn't care that it was Saturday night; I didn't care that I was on vacation. I was in bed by 11:30. The casino will have to wait a day to get my money.
