They take Mothers Day seriously around here. I wasn't going to get anywhere NEAR a nice restaurant today.
But I'm smart and I planned ahead. During my walk on Saturday, I stopped at a bakery and picked up some Empanadas.
This isn't Per-Lizza, the place with all the wonderful Empanadas, but this place has a few that they do really well, and it is in the other direction from Per-Lizza. I'm sure the people that own the place know the name of their Bakery, but me -- I have no clue.
So I heated up two Empanadas. The first one was filled with Aji de Gallina (Chicken in a Yellow Pepper Sauce), and the second was Ham & Cheese.
They do a good job there, and the Empanadas cost a dollar each.
If I wanted any chance at getting in to a restaurant, I needed to get there just as they opened. So I headed to Barranco, stopping at a couple of places, but no luck -- I was too early. Finally, I made it down to Cevicheria Los Delfines just as they were opening and hanging their Mothers Day signs and balloons.
I ordered a Causa with Shrimp and a Grilled Octopus. They wanted to tell me all these things about the Octopus -- hopefully it wasn't "the Octopus is Spoiled" -- until they agreed to whip me up some.
The Octopus was so nice, I shot it twice. It certainly wasn't spoiled, but I'm not sure that we will ever find out what it was that they were trying to tell me.
That kept me full and happy for a while. I had some Aguaymanto at the apartment while resting.
In the evening, I was in the Atlantic City Casino while they were doling out the food. I took them up on their offer of a Chicken Breast.
Salchipapas are a thing in Peru. Basically, they are French Fries with a cut up Hot Dog on them. Kids love them, and since this is Peru, they also have fancy Salchipapas for the grown-ups. I decided that would be my Dinner for the evening.
I stopped at a random Salchipapa place and ordered one with both Hot Dog and Chorizo.
It was only OK, so I ate all the Meat and some of the Fries. Later, in my travels, I stopped and ordered a Fancy Lomo Saltado Salchipapa.
This was much better. Much messier, too. I ate almost all of this one.
That was it for the day. Here's my steps.
