...well, there might have been a little bit of Octopus in one of the dishes.
I worked in the morning, and was meeting Fernando and Sandra for Lunch, so I had just a few minutes to pop into Tottus (a supermarket here) near Fernando's office. They had a Cafeteria, so I thought I would grab a quick Breakfast before I had Lunch.
There's a counter with ready-made sandwiches. I bought two of them: one with Chicken, and one with three different Sausages/Hot Dogs/Whatever.
They were better in concept than they were in real life. I wound up eating about half of each, and went of to see my friends.
We had Lunch at a Cevicheria called Mateo.
To start, I had Scallops Parmesean, Sandra had a trio of mini-Causas, and Fernando had a Leche de Tigre.
My Scallops were good, and I didn't hear any complaints from the two of them, so we were happy.
For our Main Courses, I had a Parihuela, Sandra had a Cebiche, and Fernando had a Risotto with Lomo Saltado and Shrimp.
My Seafood Soup was delicious. I paid the extra $2 to get them to throw a whole Fish in there as well. There might have been a piece or two of Octopus floating around in there. And again, Both Sandra's and Fernando's plates were empty, so everyone was happy.
I wouldn't hesitate to go there again, but I wouldn't go halfway across Lima to eat there, when I would have to pass 8074862308340648 places just as good on the way.
One place that I would drive halfway across Peru to go to is Panchita. It's my favorite restaurant, in a city full of great places. Lucia met us for Dinner -- she's one of the people who went to help give out the gifts to the kids at Christmas, and it's always a treat to see her.
Panchita starts you out with some wonderful Breads. We ordered the Piqueo (sampler) to share as an Appetizer.
The big yellow thing at the top is a Causa, filled with what we would call Chicken Salad here. Clockwise from the Causa, there were two sticks of Anticucho (Grilled Beef Hearts), Chicharron (Fried Pork), Tamalito Verde (a Green Tamale), Choclo a la Huacaina (Giant Mutant Corn Kernals in a Sauce), Papa Rellena (a stffed Potato Ball), and Ocopa (Potatoes covered with some Green stuff that I don't like).
The Piqueo is more than enough for three to share as an Appetizer, and one time, I just went and ordered that for my Dinner.
But not tonight. I ordered the Cochinillo (Roasted Baby Pig). Lucia had an Anticucho de Pollo (Grilled Chicken Chunks on a stick), and Sandra -- who is the smart one -- just had a side dish of Vegetables.
The Baby Pig was freaking awesome. Ed ordered it on our last trip, and wouldn't shut up about how good it was. He was right. I had them substitute the Rice that came with it with a Baked Apple -- good call. Lucia liked her Chicken, and Sandra ate all her Vegetables.
The girls passed on Dessert, but I ordered a Queso Helado, which is an Ice Cream-like Dessert from the Peruvian city of Arequipa, and I love it.
Lucia helped me a little with the Dessert.
That's it for the day. No duck, and a couple of bits of Octopus, but I did OK.
