Blog is Back: Lima

Apparently, the name of this blog should be Rich's Meals In Peru. Or something.

Anyway, I'm here for a few days with Ed, so there will be plenty to take photos of, and I will try to post.

For such a short trip, we're staying in a hotel. They include Breakfast in the rate, and we were up late, so Ed is sleeping in, and I went upstairs.

This is what you call your Basic Free Breakfast. Cafe con Leche, Toast, Scrambled Eggs with Ham, Watermelon Juice and Watermelon. Not worth getting on an airplane for, but a bargain at twice the price.

So we go for a walk in the morning and wind up at Surquillo Mercado #1. They don't have the Seafood Lady, but they do have Seafood.

I make Ed stop at El Cevichano, where he watches me have a Clam Cebiche, which of course comes with a Bowl of (free) Chilcano - A Broth made of Fish Stock.


As I told Ed, that's the best five bucks I will spend all week.

I also bought some Aguyamanto (a Peruvian Fruit) and some Grapes. You can assume that I was chewing on those things every now and then.

Later, we headed to El Bolivariano for their famous Sunday Brunch. It's a little schlep from Miraflores, but it is always packed, and it is a good value for the $19 price. Here's a bunch of photos; I will leave my plates for last.












My first plate had a Rocoto Relleno (Stuffed Pepper), some Pig, Mixed Seafood Cevoche, Tiradito (another type of Ceviche), and a sampling of Fried FIsh. Then came the Anticucho - a skewer of Beef Hearts, Then a plate with Aji de Gallina (shredded chicken in a spicy sauce), Rice with Seafood and Carapulcra, which is Potatoes in somekind of Magical Sauce and -- in this version -- with Chicken and Pork. Last was Adobo, which is Marinated Pork in sort of a Soup, and it is freaking Awesome.

Needless to say, Ed and I were full the rest of the day. Much, much later, Luis (my driver) and I stopped off for a Caldo de Gallina (Chicken Noodle Soup).


Last, after teaching the casinos a well-needed lesson, Ed had a Sandwich at La Lucha, and I helped him with his fries.

That's it for the day. Hopefully, I can keep up with the blog.
