Diego and I made short work of the Sampler at Panchita |
Sundays are a little tough if you want a Coffee Shop with a comfy chair in Lima. But, there's always Sofa Cafe... they are a seven day a week operation.
Along with my Latte, I had a Smoked Salmon and Avocado Sandwich.
For Lunch, I walked through Miraflores and met Diego at Panchita. We keep not connecting when I am in town, and he is moving to Spain, so we made it happen.
Carlos set us up with Bread and we started with one of my favorite things there, the Pastel de Choclo.
The Pastel is a layer of Ground Corn, made delicious, over a layer of spiced, Ground Beef. It's much better than I just described, and it is especially good at Panchita.
For the Main Course, we decided to just split the Piqueo - an assortment of Peruvian Dishes.
From the top, there's a Papa Rellena (Stuffed Potato), a Causa, mini Skewers of Beef Hearts, Fried Pork, a Tamaito Verde (Green Tamale) and Choclo con Queso (Corn with Cheese Sauce). We pretty much demolished the plate.
We did NOT have Queso Helado for Dessert, as Carlos told us that Panchita now has Marcianos.
Marcianos are traditionally a street-type of dessert. Sort of like an Ice Pop back home. Except the street ones are much better, and the ones at Panchita were excellent.
Alex dropped me a text and invited me to Sunday Night out with his family. He picked me up and, with his wife, daughter and grandson, we went to Beer Chicken.
Beer Chicken, along with having a great name, is a pretty typical Peruvian Chicken joint. These places serve Rotisserie Chicken (Pollo a la Brasa) along with a bunch of other things.
We started with some Taquitos, just to order something. They were uneventful.
For our Main Courses, the grownups had Rotisserie Chicken, Fried Chicken Chunks with Fries, and Grilled Swordfish for Alex & me. I was going to get the Rotisserie Chicken, but I really like Swordfish. Some of the dishes came with a nice Salad.
That was it for the day. Alex dropped me at the Casino, and I had my best night of the trip there.

My flight was super early, so I was up by 4:30 and in the taxi by 5:15. Check in was fast, so I went to Tanta and had a bite.
Since it was still very early, I kept it light and just had a Pastel de Acelga and a Tamalito Verde.
The Pastel is basically a Spinach Pie, with Acelga being not quite Spinach, but from the same family. It was not the best example of this that I have ever had. But the Tamale was delicious.
That was it for this trip. I got home, and Ernie was happy to see me.
I return to Lima in March. Until then, have a great 2019!
