Football Sunday

I guess every Sunday is a Football Sunday, but I just like calling it that.

This morning, I started with a Bowl of Watermelon.

Joe Robert came over to watch the games with me, so I made us Lunch. When I'm cooking, there's a good chance that Fish will be on the menu.
For your viewing pleasure, here's some Catfish, Diced Tomatoes, an Onion (which I cut up), Baby Portabellos, Capers, Pepper Rings, Jalapenos, Broccoli and spices.

First, everything went into the frying pan.

After the Vegetables were close to ready, I added the Catfish.

Here's the final product:

Joe Robert liked his, too.

I finished my plate, and then did in the remaining Vegetables that didn't make it into the original servings.

As a side dish, I made us a Tamale that I had brought home from Peru. We split it, so that's five points.

Later on, we broke open the Chips and Hummus that Joe Robert brought with him.

I ate two Chips with Hummus. Two.

For the late game, I had a Bowl of Watermelon and some Frozen Grapes.

Best Day of the Week

The Hurricanes won.

I ate the few Grapes that were still in my freezer when I woke up.

The football game was at noon, so I met Jeff at our new football watching place, CJ's Draft House in Deerfield Beach.

I had eaten a lot yesterday, so i passed on the Wings and ordered a Salad with a piece of Fish on it.

It was a nice, big, Green Salad and the filet was Mahi Mahi. No Cheese or Croutons or anything, and the waitress brought a Balsamic Dressing on the side. I finished all of it, and used about three quarters of the Dressing.

Jeff had a French Dip Sandwich.

The 'Canes won handily, beating up USF 49-21.

I returned home to clean the house and watch more games. I ate a lot of Watermelon (still on sale at Publix) until it was bed time.

Friday: Salad Store, Thai Restaurant. And Watermelon

I grabbed six Frozen Grapes as I was leaving the house in the morning.

Publix has Watermelon on sale this week, so I stopped there on the way to work. When I got in, I dove right into a Bowl.

I also got some String Beans at Publix. I had some of them, too. And them some Frozen Grapes.

Larry and I went to Sweet Tomatoes for Lunch. I had a bowl of Vegetable Soup, a plate with some Lettuce, Broccoli, Mushrooms, Green Peppers and Cucumbers topped with some Chopped Egg. There was a second plate with some Pepperocini and Pickle Chips. No Cheese, no Dressing.

The Soup was good, so I had another Bowl, and a Bowl of the Crazy Meatball Soup.

Larry has Soup and Salad, too. Here's a blurry picture of him.

Back at the office, I killed the rest of the day with Grapes and Strawberries.

For Dinner, I went out with Lonnise, Lisa and Lisa's friend (whose name I can not remember). Lisa suggested that we go to Lemongrass on Federal Highway. I had passed by a zillion times, and have seen their ads even more than that, so off we went.

I started with the Salad with Ginger Dressing.

That was followed up with Lobster Wonton Soup.

For my main dish, I had the mixed Seafood (Mussels, Calamari, Shrimp, Fish and Scallops) in a Red Curry Sauce.

The Salad was, well, Salad. And the Soup was nothing special, but the Curry dish (with the Brown Rice) was very good. It was return-worthy. If I wasn't at a table with three other people, I would have licked the bowl.

Lisa started with the Tuna Tataki, and followed up with some Sushi Roll. Here she is with her Tuna, making her Blog debut.

Lonnise walked on the wild side, first having Tom Yum Soup, and then a Shrimp Roll. Lonnise eating Sushi is one of the rarest of all sightings. Here she is with her Soup.

I got home and -- not shockingly -- didn't eat anything further.

Noodle House & Lime

A handful of Frozen Grapes when I first got to the office, before I remembered that there was Watermelon in the refrigerator.

So then I had a Bowl of Watermelon.

And a few Frozen Grapes.

Sergio wanted to go out for Lunch today. Who was I to argue?

We went to the Noodle House on State Road 7 and Commercial. I had Vietnamese food the day before, but Vietnamese people eat it all the time, so I felt safe. I started with the Spring Rolls.

For my main dish, I had one of the 986315711241 different Noodle Soups on the menu.

This one had meat and some sort of fish-like substance and -- instead of the regular noodles -- I changed for the thinner noodles. Why? Because I could. This soup had a different than usual pile of stuff on the side to rip up and add to your Soup.

It was really good. I like Noodle House better than the Pho place on Sheridan Street, and much better than the other one on 441 (the place with the name I can not remember). The jury is still out on Hot Pot.

Sergio had something called Shrimp Paste on Noodles.
Today's shirt: Light Blue
The Shrimp Paste was some fried stuff on a stick that turned out to be Sugar Cane, He said it (the fried stuff, not the stick) tasted like Shrimp. The rest of his dish was in a big bowl, but there was no Soup involved. He seemed happy with his meal.

I finished the rest of the Frozen Grapes in the office.

I thought that was all for the day, but I was wrong. I was on Federal Highway, and decided to go to Lime and get a Burrito.

They let you order whatever you want, so I got one with Grilled Chicken, Rice, Refried Beans, Lettuce, Pico de Gallo, cooked Onions and Peppers. No Cheese, no Guac, and no Sour Cream. They have a Salsa Bar, so I loaded up there as well.
The Burrito was really heavy. And delicious.

I didn't eat the Chips.

Around 9:00, I had some Grapes. NOW, I'm full.

The Hot Pot

Lonnise and I wound up at The Hot Pot in Davie for Dinner tonight.

I had driven past and scouted the place before... it first appears to be just another Vietnamese Pho place that I am noticing all around the town, but they had signs for very non-Vietnamese stuff in their window, like Crawfish. So I was intrigued.

We get there and it's not very crowded (we were the only table at the time), but we were greeted by Katie, who was friendly and pleasant.

The menu had many of the standard Pho-type items, but also some stuff that sounded very creative with their use of sauces, and a whole section on Hot Pots. We didn't do it this time, but Hot Pots are basically -- if I understood Katie correctly -- Vietnamese Fondue. You pick two different flavor Broths, and then buy (a la carte) the various items to add to the Broth, There were Meat, Fish, Seafood, and Chicken items, as well as a selection of different Vegetables and Noodles. We passed a couple as we were leaving, and they had what appeared to be a ton of food in and around their Hot Pot, and the guy estimated that all that food was going to run him around $30 for the two of them. It certainly appeared to be a good deal for $15.

But I digress.

Shockingly, I didn't get the Pho Soup. Hell, I didn't get any Soup. I started with the Summer Rolls.

I get these everywhere, and they are all pretty much the same: Good. I wasn't disappointed here.

Katie did an excellent job talking me into my next dish, the Dynamite Mussels.

These are cooked Mussels topped with a very, very tasty -- and spicy -- sauce. I liked them a lot, and will probably bring Loretta here for them... she's a big Mussel Fan.

In a fit of Health, I also ordered a plate of Steamed Bok Choy.

For some reason, I always either overcook or undercook my Bok Choy, so this was a pleasure. It tasted a little boring, however, but then Katie came to the rescue.

She brought me what she called Vietnamese Barbecue Sauce, bit it was more like a paste. She also brought some chopped up fresh Garlic and some Chili Pepper flakes. I mixed them together, using a little Soy Sauce to get it to work, and that did the trick on the Bok Choy.

The Soups there looked interesting, and I **could** have forced myself to eat one, but I decided to save that for a future trip.

Lonnise had the Shrimp Seafood Boil. Here she is with the food and Katie.

The deal on this dish is that you pick your Seafood from what they have available, then they cook it in one of a few different sauces. Katie recommended the 'Sha Bang' Sauce. Lonnise liked it a lot. I tasted the sauce, and it was very tasty and Garlic-y and a little hot. The check said that it was the 'mild' Sauce, so beware. I might order medium for myslf, if I ever order that dish. Lonnise's dish was $12, and it had what looked like a lot of Shrimp. Katie asked if she wanted the Shrimp with or without their heads. Despite passing up what would have been a wonderful photo opportunity, she went headless.

Wednesday: Everything Except Dinner

BLOG ADVISORY: Dinner will be covered in an upcoming post.

I had a handful of Frozen Grapes as I was leaving the house this morning.

Later, a Bowl of Watermelon at the office. Then some Frozen Grapes.

We had a meeting at the office today, and rather than dealing with everyone's orders, we just sent out to Publix for an assortment of Lunch Meats, Cheeses, Rolls, etc. It went pretty well.

I had five slices of Turkey Breast and three slices of Chicken Breast rolled up with Mustard.

Publix is expensive, but they have some nice Deli Meat.

Later, a lot of Frozen Grapes. A LOT... the current batch is really, really good.

After Dinner, I stopped back by the office. Sergio was still there, and he offered me a taste of his mother's Special Tuna Salad.
Sergio has a seemingly endless supply of this shirt in all colors.
It had no mayo, just some Lime Juice and (I suppose) some seasoning, and Celery. It was pretty good, but I was full from Dinner.

When I got home, there were just a few Grapes in the freezer. I made short work of them.

Tuesday

Two hard-Boiled Eggs for Breakfast.

A Bowl of Watermelon.

For Lunch, I had the Chioppino Soup that I had bought at Whole Foods yesterday.

I don't like nuking liquids... it never heats up evenly. That didn't stop me from finishing the bowl. Other than uneven heat, it was delicious.

Another Bowl of Watermelon at around 1:30.

And another at 5:00 pm.

I got home at 7:30, and had a half hour to cook before NCIS. The other things that I bought at Whole Foods were some Broccoli Florets and Turkey, Feta and Spinach Burgers. They were 8 ounces each, and came in white meat and dark meat patties. I chose the white.

Now, my expectations were low on this, but they looked good and appeared healthy-ish. I pan-fried them, and when they were done, they didn't look all that exciting.

But then I ate them, and well, they didn't suck. I had the Broccoli raw; that was excellent. And I am full.

Suddenly Monday

There I was, minding my own business, and all of a sudden, it was Monday again.

I didn't eat during the day (I even forgot to take my vitamins today). So I get hungry as I'm driving home.

Pizza? Ribs? Salmon? Hamburgers? All of the above?

Itell all of the hungry voices to shut up, and I pull into Whole Foods. I knew I could get Soup there.

I'm walking around. I but a couple of Hard-Boiled Eggs and Turkey Burgers for later in the week. But for tonight, I go to the prepared foods.

I usually don't think I can afford most of the stuff there, but I go to the hot buffet table, and I see: Fire Roasted Eggplant. I get some of that.

It doesn't look like much, but I like Eggplant, and I figured, what the hell. I got around a pound of that.

Then I picked up large containers of the two Soups that I bought last week: Fish Gumbo and Chioppino.

I was in a frenzy and forgot to take pictures; these are from last week.

The Eggplant didn't make it out of the parking lot. When I got home, I ate the Gumbo. Interestingly, when you go at 8 pm instead of just when they're closing, the soup has big pieces of fish in it.

There were four pieces that size in the container.

I put the other Soup in the refrigerator for tomorrow and had a bowl of Frozen Grapes while watching Payton (the good brother) Manning beat up on the Raiders.

Sunday!

I didn't eat much today.

I had two Hard Boiled Eggs at around 1:00.

Then I went to Jim's house to watch the Dolphin game. They won, in dramatic fashion.

Jim lives in Coral Springs, so when I left, I drove to Lima 51 on Sample Road. They were closed.

Undaunted, I continued driving. When I got close to home, I remembered the Salvadorian place that Lonnise and I went to a couple of weeks ago. They were still open, and I get to practice my Spanish.

One of their Blackboard Specials was Conchas Negras. These make up one of my favorite dishes in Peru, so I decided to give it a whirl.

This wasn't really like they make it back 'home', but it was tasty. Conchas Negras are Black Clams. This was in a Lime/Worcestershire-based sauce, with cut up Onions, Tomatoes, and Cilantro. I liked it, but it lacked the hotness that I am used to.

I then ordered the smaller version of their Seafood Soup, that they call Mariscada.

I finished the bowl, using just a couple of spoonfuls of the Rice, and none of the Tortilla.

That was it for the day.

Football Saturday

A Bowl of Watermelon for Breakfast. I had some Frozen Grapes, too.

I met Sergio and Edwar at Stout Bar & Grill to do some Guy Stuff. Sergio was taking notes.

We split an order of 30 Wings. They are grilled there, and serve the sauce on the side.

I think that I had 11 of them. No Sauce.

The Hurricanes had a home game today, so we stopped and got our standard Subs to eat before the game.

Wheat Bread (hollowed out), Turkey, all kinds of Peppers, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Mustard, Onions, etc. No Cheese, no Oil. Delicious.

Jeff and Brent liked theirs, too.

The Hurricanes won 77-7. That's not a typo.  When I got home, I celebrated with a Bowl of Watermelon.

Fabulous Friday

Fabulous because there was Soup, yo.

A Bowl of Watermelon at home for Breakfast.

Frozen Grapes during the day.

For Lunch today, I had a Lean Cuisine Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Chicken meal.
It was good enough. It did the job. I had some more Grapes in the afternoon.

I wanted to watch the football game tonight, so I hung with my friends for a while, but didn't go to eat with them.

The game was at 9:00, so at 8:30 I went to Whole Foods and got two Soups to go.

They were both very good. The Fish Gumbo was slightly spicy and -- although the ingredients say 'rice' -- was full of Fish, Good Flavor, and no Rice. I have had the Cioppino before, and like last time, was a tasty Tomato Fish Soup.

As is my usual, I had Too Much Soup... a large container of each. Not surprisingly, I am very full.

Thursday, July 19: Rendez-Vous

A Bowl of Watermelon. A few Frozen Grapes.

Larry and I were out today around Lunchtime. We were in my neighborhood, so I suggested we stop at the Rendez-Vous Bakery and Bistro.

I don't eat here enough. The food is always good, the prices are fair, the servers are usually nice, and I get to support a small place near my house.

I ordered the Roasted Vegetable Sandwich.

The Sandwich consisted of Onions, Zucchini, assorted Peppers, Yellow Squash and a couple of other things, held together in a Pesto Sauce. It was really, really good. I had a choice of Fries, Chips or a Salad with the Sandwich. I opted for the Salad with Balsamic Dressing.

Larry had a Bowl of Soup (Cream of Mushroom, maybe???) and a Green Salad. He just about inhaled the Soup, so I guess it was good.

That was pretty much it until later tonight. I had a Bowl of Watermelon and some more Grapes when I got home.
